Here comes another year… Farewell 2010
Years passes by like hours and it becomes crucial that we record our memories no matter how simple our lives are.
I revisited my last year’s resolutions with a self-evaluation intention. I wanted to remind myself of what I hoped to achieve and see if I had achieved it.
Recap of 2010 resolutions:
I couldn’t balance between work and my personal life, instead I worked double in 2010 to enjoy family life in 2011.
My PhD thesis still awaits to be turned into a book, and I don’t promise to do that in 2011 but at least I will start working on it.
I did learn how to say No and turn down invitations that will only crowd the over-crowded schedule of mine.
My book hasn’t been published yet. But instead of one, I have two books under publication. The first book has been funded by QNRF and investigates women representation in Arab media. the second book is the product of 6 months intensive work and based on a creative writing course that I teach called “Writer’s Craft”. The book is being published by the ministry of Culture as a part of Doha the City of Culture. In 2011, I will launch both books.
I started writing in Woman Today magazine in 2010 and although I took a break from writing recently, I’m planning to go back to writing in 2011.
I have accepted many offers to be a guest speaker in 2010 (e.g. English Day at the English Department- Qatar University and QPWN official launching) and I intend to continue to do so as it opens different opportunities for me to meet people outside my circle.
I have learned in 2010 the importance of speaking to the media and voicing my opinions directly to them instead of having others put words into my mouth and misreport what I say.
In 2010, I have been called a feminist, a columnist, and a blogger; all I’m proud of.
All in all, 2010 was a good year for me and the most important event that happened by the end of the year was the birth of my baby girl “Najla”.

Time passed by fast today and I just realized that it is past 12 midnight. 2011 is officially here, and I don't have any specific resolutions. I do know that I have a lot of ideas, projects, and challenges to handle during the year. So, for this year, I plan to dream big and work hard. After all, having "my heart in the work" is what I truly learned from CMU!January 1st, 2011 @ 12:33 am
