Thank you for your insightful comments.

I have faith that Allah won’t discriminate against me because I’m a woman, but society will. Alice, religion and history can be manipulated, and certainly Islam is no exception. We can be followers of logic or merely followers!

"This distinction between the faith and the various manifestations of its practice is a subtle but extremely important one"

I agree that it's confusing how Islam seems to be a liberator and an oppressor of women at the same time. I converted after researching about the woman's rights in Islam. It seemed so perfect in the books and articles. But in real life it's often mixed with culture, prejudices against women and restrictions.... it's incredibly hard to differentiate between the two and to distinguish the real Islam. Many new converts fall into the trap of conservative Islam like that practiced in KSA. It seems to be the purest and the "real" Islam. While it's not. It took me time to realize that many fatwa issued by those conservative scholars are actually not to be trusted. And "sharia" law in some countries has practices not based directly on Islam.

Islam is a confusing religion. Seems like there are many kinds of Islam out there. Fundamentalists that restrict women or blow themselves up in public places find proof for their ways in the Quran and hadith. Feminists and Muslims that love Islam and claim it's a most beautiful peaceful religion also find their proof in the same Quran and hadith. Looks like Islam has many faces depending on people practicing it. Who's practicing Islam the right way- is not at all so obvious.

Well, although Islamists and conservative muslims do not approve Islam, it must be said that Islam is one and within the religion there are thousand discourses. Islamic feminism is one of them and it aims to recover the progressive spirit of Islam in matters that concern women. How is it possible that the Muslim umma of the 7th century was way more progressive that the Muslims of the 21th century?

I would like to agree with the prof. here, and add that it is only logical not to jugde islam by how the muslims are. just like we dont think judge how easy or hard chess is by looking at someone play it. i also think that distinguishing islam from muslims is something that everyone should realise, not only feminists.
one last thing: i am a bit confused about the term "islamic femenist". how can there be an islamic feminist if islam itself doesnt approve of femenism?
