“She became the global symbol of the unrest in Iran when she was shot during a peaceful pro-democracy rally in Tehran. Last week saw the end of the 40-day official mourning period following the death of Neda Soltan. To mark the occasion, demonstrators met around the world, holding giant images of the philosophy student to carry on her legacy… Neda was shot dead in June when she got out of her car in the middle of the rally, to escape the heat. Onlookers captured her death on their phone cameras, making her the first internet martyr of a country suffering political unrest.”
